Alice's Belly Dance Poetry
This poetry is basically about moments in time when I've been inspired
by certain dancers, either through their dancing or as people. It's
not really about the act of belly dancing, so much. In any case, I hope
you like my little offerings!

Poem #1
she
is creation
there are no things
outside her
that aren't hers
already

|
Poem #2
her traces
gently kill my breathing
she says she's not young
but i love her face,
vision phantom
lingering
so much living
in her skin
i'm staring like mad,
she turns to her side
to listen
"do you like having
the drummers here?"
she asks, warmly,
then smiles

Poem #3
your
sensual, beautiful hands
in motion, locked with sound
like somewhere distant flowing
like somewhere distant flows through you
your
eyes, your heart-stop beauty
calling like the wind can call
to wake me from deep sleep
to break my slumber clean apart
and break my heart, and break my heart
your
body, soft and lovely
time has made you perfect
the heavens' greatest goddesses
are at home in your skin
as someone distant moves through you
as you are someone distant

Poem #4
floating arms
hypnotic gypsy gestures
seem so soft
sad, because it's all so pretty
veiled mystery
not of cloth
but internal
you are a stranger to me
as i watch
when it isn't necessary
but too shy to look
when i should
and you smile
dancing, dancing
natural and fluid
your body spins
through worlds,
cultures and memories
i'm shaken, shaking
always so,
whenver i see you
breathing perfection
and sharing
